Is this why people blindly follow their political party?

Politics are like religion… all the morons have blind faith that their people are telling them the truth… when that’s hardly the case… These people are incapable of questioning what they perceive as authority because they aren’t authorities over themselves. They want to be lied to, and they want to believe the lies.

Chemicals do not flow through every human’s brain exactly the same. So this cannot be the standard for all people. Otherwise I would not have voted Democrat, Republican and Independent in various elections. However, I have to admit that was a very interesting article. Thank you for posting it.

Not blind, informed. They are voting issues not individuals.

The only time that an informed voter picks between two people is during the primaries. In the general election it is really about the party platforms. The candidates are out there to generate enthusiasm and to get people to the polls.

Very interesting article. Thanks for the link! I liked especially this quote:

“None of the circuits involved in conscious reasoning were particularly engaged,” Westen said. “Essentially, it appears as if partisans twirl the cognitive kaleidoscope until they get the conclusions they want, and then they get massively reinforced for it, with the elimination of negative emotional states and activation of positive ones.”

Everyone has preconceived biases of some kind, and this probably happens to all of us. It’s useful though to understand that it happens. And for me, it’s yet another reason to advocate less reliance on political institutions (whizzing sound of my personal cognitive kaleidoscope spinning in my head).

Interesting. Makes sense since it’s hard to believe that anyone who can see what is really going on could support either party. Sadly, it’s like a team sport for too many people.

When did Politics and Science belong in the same sentence, Render unto Ceasar that of which is Ceasar’s, and unto Newton that which is of Newton.

Looks that way. How else would you explain voting for Bush’s 2nd term?

Yes. Most people cannot be objective regardless of what they think or tell you.

no..its more a matter of which can do the most for you….as in,welfare drones vote for the dems who have bought their votes over the last 40 years…see?..easy to figure out

No it’s because the O is a slick talker and that’s all Liberals need – a good sounding leader.

Who cares if he’s racist, a liar, and a coward? He speaks well!
