Bush’s presidency has been 8 years of disgrace. Clinton’s presidency was marred by scandel and impeachment. Bush Sr. was a hypocrit. The Reagan years were horrible, and while events such as the fall of the Soviet Union made me happy, that was more of a self-destruction more than anything the US did. …
It’s not a big deal. It’s just an issue that the right wing hypocrites are pouncing on to score political points with the ignorant patriots.
US Foreign policy, despite what republicans want you to believe, is absolutely responsibly for elements in the world that hate the United States and there is no doubt that the die hard nationalist elements in government were responsible in large part for events leading up to 9/11.
The CIA has a very sordid history of enacting ‘regime change’ of democratically elected governments, and replacing them with ruthless tyrants that rule by dictatorship but are under control and influence of the US government.
Right now, there is a concerted propaganda effort to demonize Iran with Americans pointing to the horrors of the 1979 hostage taking at the US Embassy.
Yet short sighted Americans that are either ignorant or choose to selectively ignore history to fit into their world view will never point out that the reason that happened was because the CIA deposed a democratically elected government in a 1953 coup and installed the dictatorial Shaw who made a habit of imprisoning and torturing political dissenters. And Americans seem to just turn a blind eye to this FACT, as if some other country pulled that on us that we wouldn’t be just as vindictive.
After the success of the Iranian coup, the CIA, encouraged by their success, didn’t stop there. Next came Guatemala in 1954, Democratically elected Congo in 1960, Iraq in both 1963 and 1968, Chile where they installed Augusto Pinochet who in turn mass murdered his own people, Afghanistan in both 1973 & 1978, Nicaragua through the 80’s, and after the cold war it didn’t even stop there. In 2002, Washington has admitted they were behind the coup attempt in Venezuela!
And the ignorant patriots and conservative propaganda machine are proud that our CIA will assassinate democratically elected foreign leaders that aren’t willing to be puppets to the United States?!? What a farce! This is not promoting democracy around the world, it’s promoting fascism. Plain and simple.
What exactly is there to be proud of?
I furthermore have to take issue with user CajunBig’s criticism of your question that follows my post. He claims:
“You ask a question, then state your own crappy opinion in place of factual data.”
And you choose to reply with your own crappy opinion also without being grounded in fact, making you the ultimate hypocrite.
CajunBig rants on:
“Just because you don’t like Bush doesn’t mean it’s been 8 years of disgrace. Although many don’t like the direction taken in Iraq, they support him in other endeavors. What is a disgrace is blind hate without merit.”
Says who? By your obviously twisted unsupported opinion? Considering a majority of Americans and popular opinion around the world consider him a disgrace, you are in the clear minority. What is more of a disgrace is your blind loyalty in the face of facts that point to Bush’s overwhelming incompetence, not to mention your constant hypocrisy. There is plenty of merit behind calling him a disgrace, and the fact that you fail to acknowledge such makes you clearly the one that is blind.
CanjunBig blindly rants on:
“Why was Sr. a hypocrite? For making an agreement with Dems that they subsequently backed out of and then tried to blame him? Once again your twisted opinion holds no merit.”
Read my lips, NO NEW TAXES!!! Or were you not old enough to remember that as his 1988 campaign slogan before he decided to raise taxes? That is what is called hypocrisy, and once again you choose to ignore the obvious while providing nothing in support of your argument.
CajunBig ignorantly rants on:
“Reagan was probably the best President in recent history, and many agree. And his having no effect is just as absurd as his having no effect on getting the hostages back. Some research and some facts would go a long way toward giving you a semblance of credibility.”
At this point you are the last person that should be accusing anyone else of credibility issues and of not doing research when you fail to provide anything in support of your bogus claims. Why is it then that the negotiation for the hostage release occurred BEFORE Reagan even took office? The terms of their release is the Algiers Accord, an agreement negotiated by Jimmy Carter on January 19th, 1981. [footnote 1] The very following day they were released the very hour Reagan took the oath of office, so why should he have any credit for their release? It’s time for you to take a history class, since your recollection of history seems based on a Limbaugh fantasy.
The Soviet Union was crumbling under the weight of its own ideological shortcomings far before Reagan took office, with strikes, boycotts, and massive public demonstrations beginning in the 1970’s, so the seeds of their demise had already been sowed. It was hastened in part due to the huge buildup of the US defense in the latter part of the 20th century, which started WAY before Reagan took office. In fact, it was Reagan’s bellicose rhetoric that allowed the Soviets to cling to power even longer by rallying around the government in response to the American threat. [footnote 2]
BigCajun, exercising his first amendment right to speak on behalf of his own ignorance continues:
“Right now one thing the US has done that has made me proud is to continue to support the right of free speech, so that even people like you can make dumb and unsupported statements like that above without fear of retribution.”
I have provided sources in support of my arguments. Considering your ad hominem attacks on the questioner, and your declaration of supposed ‘facts’ that you yourself do not provide support for either, it’s safe to say that your blind revisionism is only limited to the confines of your simple mind.
You ask a question, then state your own crappy opinion in place of factual data.

While You are accurate about both George W Bush and Bill Clinton being horrible pathetic jokes of Presidents I am afraid I am going to have to correct You on the matter of Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Ronald Reagan was, BY FAR the best president that The United States Of America has had since Teddy Roosevelt. What did Reagan and America do? Basically saved the Entire World (Including YOU) by FORCING the collapse of the USSR by causing them to overstrain their Economy past the point it could bear with Military Spending. Thus bringing the Cold War to an end and bringing the Earth partially out from under the spectre of Nuclear Annihilation. What You said about the Reagan years and it being a “self destruction” was, frankly, one of the dumbest statements I have ever heard in My Life.
Who cares? This is a cesspool of a country and most of those answers were bullshit from people displaced in reality or completely ignoring it (which is much worst) with no real history sense as hard as that is with so much tainted versions of it. Turn off the t.v. stop looking at things for face value. Get out and do something. most of these people are spiritually dead.
President’s do not make or break the USA. If you feel that way then you must live in a shell. The USA has done MUCH to eleviate the ills of this world. In fact, if you must point to President’s then let it be noted that under President Bush the USA gave more aid for AIDS research and medicine to Africa than any other country in the history of the disease. Everything is only negative if you chose to view life that way.
Beat the left in 94 after 40 years in power. Beat Carter in a LANDSLIDE. Beat the Reds. Impeached Bill Clinton, The Clock is running out for you to impeach Bush, and beating the left in November after they tear themselves apart in Denver. Vote Hillary in the Primary and McCain in November.
While I wasnt a big fan of it, the tens of billions of dollars in aid to Africa that Bush sent would be something a lib like you should be proud of. It has made a huge difference, though the press would never report that.
The help and aid we provided to the tsunami victims.
Liberating Iraq, though it is not done and has been tough.
Fighting and defeating communism worldwide. The only true communist country left is Cuba and that will soon change.
All the advancements in medicine and healthcare.
All the advancements in technology.
Civil rights, banning discrimination, headstart, Miranda Rights (Thank God), a start on war on poverty (if only someone else can pick it up, which Bush has failed to do), more charity events, more jobs, peace corps, ect. We have done great stuff. Yeah, Bush is a moron, same with his father. Carter wasn’t the worst president ever. He couldn’t do anything, there was nothing for him to do!
Going back to Reagan, I would say liberating Grenada was something to be proud of. I don’t know for sure if you would, however, unless you believe people are better off with democracy instead of a communist puppet state used for importing Soviet weapons into Central America.
You got to spew on yahoo answers, nobody is knocking down your door to send you to a re-education camp.Stop knocking Reagan. He was the man who did what others thought imposable.
The Internet. It lets use-full idiots rant/spew as much as they want.Last I looked this military application was invented by minds greater than us.Just to allow us to do this simple thing.
It wasn’t Al Gore.He ain’t that smart.
Americans have managed to keep 12 million illegals within their borders, supply them with jobs, education and hope for the future.
Good on America!!
