Why do atheists belittle Christians for being defensive when atheists are the ones constantly attacking?

Sorry. I just want to know. If you attack someone is it not natural for them to defend themselves? What do atheists expect for us to do when attacked?

Don’t misinterpret analysis and inquiry into a religion’s propositions as an “attack.” Interpreting it as such is just a form of bigotry.

I’m an ex-believer and I’d like to try and give you an honest answer.

For many years atheists (yes, I am one) would not dare admit that they didn’t believe. The pressure from Christians to conform was unbelievable.

Saying you were an atheist was like admitting to murder or child molesting. Atheists were evil, satanic, vile creatures. But these days there is a growing number of people who are prepared to come out and tell the world that they don’t believe.

Some non-believers get a little carried away and can be too aggressive, too defensive and tend to go on the attack. Surely, after all the persecution they have suffered in the past you can be a little forgiving?

My advice to you is to turn the other cheek and try and put yourself in their shoes!

Peace!

“Asking for evidence of your beliefs isn’t attacking. You rely on blind faith, yet overrun schools and politics with your beliefs, expect everyone to believe them, and give yourselves special treatment.

I don’t push my beliefs on others. The only Christians I see that are like that are on TV mostly. By the way, you just said we rely on blind faith, which is attacking.

“If you didn’t do such hypocritical garbage….”

What do you think when atheists call on God?

“Unlike you superstitious, knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers I don’t resort to name-calling.”

Yeah right.

“There were no atheists pretending to be christians in the past, except to be SAFE FROM BEING MURDERED BY THE REAL CHRISTIANS.

Do not attempt to shift blame from your believers before you like that again.”

They meant that those people weren’t following the bible, anyway. If you want to blame Christians for what happen in the past, then we could be mean to atheists, too because some atheists believed that black people didn’t “evolve” enough (racists), so thanks a lot for your evolution theory!

YOU make an assertion (such as: There’s a god); YOU’RE required to defend it or else be labelled a ‘mindless godbot’. If I told you I was Superman and you doubted it, I wouldn’t say, “Prove I’m not Superman.” I would be, rightly, subjected to ridicule.

“…mistakes of atheists pretending to be Christians…” Look up “No True Scotsman” fallacy.

The thing is that among other things, many Christians consider a statement of scientific fact that contradicts their Scripture to be an attack.

There are lots of matter of fact statements being made, which are not attacks, except in the minds of those I just described.

for over 1500 years Christians were in charge. They massacred, tortured, and burned anyone who disagreed with them. Now that atheists are becoming vocal and criticizing Christianity you complain that we’re too aggressive. Take a history lesson.

Why did christians murder, rape and pillage those who did not believe in god for one thousand five hundred years, and then suddenly get a victim complex?

Edit in reply to reply to buddy:

There were no atheists pretending to be christians in the past, except to be SAFE FROM BEING MURDERED BY THE REAL CHRISTIANS.

Do not attempt to shift blame from your believers before you like that again.

Asking for evidence of your beliefs isn’t attacking. You rely on blind faith, yet overrun schools and politics with your beliefs, expect everyone to believe them, and give yourselves special treatment. If you didn’t do such hypocritical garbage, you wouldn’t have to hear from me.

Why do you not understand the difference between disagreeing and attacking? Why do you make generalizations?

So self defense is attack now. Christianity=Hypocracy
