I have a 99 Toyota Camry. The “OD OFF” light is on, pushing the button does not turn it off. What is wrong?

I have a 99 Camry as well. It definetely has to be a bug, check it out next time you get an inspection. Don’t worry, it just means overdrive is off so nothing is really that serious.

Could be a short in the wires. The button could be broken if used a lot.

Could even be a code telling you there is a problem with the over drive gear. OD stands for over drive.

Its the high gear in the transmission for when you are at cruising speeds. Allows the car to run at a lower rpm to save fuel.

Your best bet is to take it into a Toyota dealership and have them look at it.

I have a 96 camry and it did the same thing. I got under the car and saw a plug unplugged from the transmission and plugged it in and the light went off and shifted fine afterwards.

OD stands for “Overdrive”
Take your car to the dealership or any auto shop and have them take a look at it. Probably a fuse issue, nothing to be immediately concerned with. But get it checked within the month.

Internal transmission problem with the torque converter solenoid switch. You can get the codes at any Auto Zone for free. Then look up the codes or ask your mechanic what they mean. If they reset your codes and they come back after a day or so,the problem is a serious.

Could be a short.
